Writing Ebook Bestsellers - Low Cost Ways to Test Your Idea Before You Write an Ebook

It always amazes me when a reader of mine sends me an email asking me why their ebook is not selling as well as they thought it would. I ask them if they tested their idea before they wrote their ebook and 100 out of 100 times, the answer is no.

Do not let this happen to you, especially since testing whether there is a market for your ebook before you create it is cheap, easy and quick. Here is how you do it:

Select Your Market
This is the first step in the process. In the beginning, I like to tell first time ebook writers to focus on a market (also called a niche) that they are passionate about and familiar with. When you are passionate about something and know a lot about it, writing ebooks about the market will be that much easier.

Product Brainstorming
Once you have the market selected, you need to figure out what kind of product you want to create. The best and easiest way to do this is to go to one of two places - Amazon or ClickBank.

You can search Amazon by category and see what the bestselling books are about. You can even use their Search Inside feature and look at the Table of Contents fro the top-selling books. This makes it easy for you to create a list of topics for your ebook. But I am getting just a little bit ahead of myself here.

Is The Competition Selling?
ClickBank will rank the bestselling ebooks in each sub-category by their "gravity score" which is a complicated formula, but the higher the number, the better.

If you find a number of products in your niche that have high numbers (greater than 4 or 5 is best), you will probably have a hot niche on your hands and the likelihood of success is pretty high.

If the gravity score is lower than a 4 or 5, you might want to look at a different niche. Once you have confirmed that the market is good and there are enough competitive products selling, you move onto the next step - Creating Your Product.

Create Your Product
If you have a winner on your hand, the next step is to create the product. If you have a loser on your hands, no big deal. You just start back at step one and go from there. At this point you might be frustrated, but at least you have not wasted your time and effort behind creating a product that no one wants to buy.

Be an Expert - They Capture Names
I almost forgot this one, but it is a "must do" when it comes to testing your ebook ideas.

One more tactic you should use, but most people overlook - creating a list. Using an email management program like Aweber, you should have people sign up for a "waiting list" and give them a free gift (ecourse or e-report) for giving you their name and email. This page is called a name squeeze page. While you are working on your product, you send them informative information on your topic and niche.

Why set this page up? Easy. While you create your product, you are building your list. When the product is done and ready for sale, you can send out one tiny little email to your list and make money from day one. Pretty cool, huh?

Now all you have to do is get to work on coming up with ideas to test.

Breakthrough Novel - How Do You Make it to the Bestsellers Lists?

Breakthrough novels are rare, indeed. Especially when you think about how many books are published each year and that 98 % of them fail at being noticed. Did you ever wonder how or why some books make it and some don't? In other words, what creates a breakthrough novel?

What is a breakthrough anyway? It implies that something breaks through a major barrier, reaches some status or position above the main. It also implies that a difficult or rare feat has been achieved.

So how does one break through with their book? There are essentially two things that must be created. But before I say what they are, it's vitally important to realize that breakthrough novels are not happenstance. They are made, or caused, to make the bestsellers lists.

This may sound a little bit like tipping the scales and so forth, but that would be like saying if you worked hard for the Olympics, you'd be cheating to win. That of course would also have to include the absurd perspective that "things should only happen by chance, fate or luck" - nonsense!

First of all, that would be a life of total effect: what ever happens, happens because it was supposed to happen, bah, blah, blah, excuse, blame, it's alright that I'm not flourishing, blah, blah, blah. Come on! Give me and everyone else a break!!

If somebody throws a lit cigarette in a trash can and a fire starts, was it meant to be? The "effect" person might actually let the building burn down. The rest of us...we'd grab a cup of water and dowse it out, and that's that - cause. Someone caused the fire and we caused it to go out.

So how does one cause a breakthrough novel?

1) By having an exceptionally well-written book
2) By effective marketing.

You may have seen your fair share of poorly-written bestsellers in your day, but realize that they don't stand the test of time...they're short lived. They succeed for as long as time and lots of marketing dollars are poured into it.

The first question to ask yourself is, "Do I want to spend a lot of time and energy promoting a half baked novel or do I want to spend my energy on the best book it could possibly be?"

Of course you want to spend your beans on a book that will sell for years to come, maybe even outlive yourself and many generations.

Okay, so the very important step #1 for creating a breakthrough novel is: GET A VERY WELL-WRITTEN BOOK. This means either you, being a great book writer, write a masterpiece. Or, if you're not one, then you hire a great book writer to write your masterpiece.

Once step #1 is accomplished, even better would be WHILE it's being written, step #2 in creating a breakthrough novel - marketing your book - is worked on. But how, you say? Well, this is but an article. Effective book marketing involves a number of actions and a great deal of know-how.

That said, I will put you in the right direction as we move forward. For now, for today, create that breakthrough novel by getting a great book started. One thing is for certain: you can't do any marketing until you have a product to sell.

Another great aspect of this book is the author's explanation of how to utilize these different names to have an impact on the souls of the people.

"What is Sufism?" by Martin Lings

As Martin Lings is a specialist of Islamic Culture, his work is thoroughly well researched and introduces the world of mysticism to the reader from the beginner's level.
